UFC 116 Fight Card – Carwin holds it down

Posted by admin under Brock Larson, Headline

If you’ve been reading and following along the Lesnar drama over the last year – and ever since Frank Mir saw words of hate flow from the mouth of UFC’s biggest poor sport, Brock Lesnar – well then you should know by now that Baby Brock will receive a humbling dose of “Shane”.  Shane Carwing has a dominiating streak in the Heavyweight Division of the UFC.  I can’t wait for Brock to get a fist full of “hush” from the impressive Shane Carwin.  You may think I’m a bit obsessed with SC. – But the truth is I see a hard working, old-school American that knows what competition is all about.  It has nothing to do with smack talk or “king of the mountain” egotistical drama.  It boils down to hard work, class and respect.  Sure Shane may respect Lesnars work ethic but may not be to fond of Brocks BULL SHIT ramblings.  Personally I think Brock will be dominated in the cage by Shane.  When it’s all said and done Brock will be fumbling for excuses, however, it’s all about the humble pie that will be spoon fed by Shane Carwin.

Sit Down Mr. Mir

Sit Down Mr. Mir

Two world titles will be on the line for the first time in 2010 when the Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey for UFC 111: St-Pierre vs Hardy. UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has been unstoppable since regaining the title in 2008, and he aims on extending his reign and his six fight winning streak against British bomber Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy, who is unbeaten in the UFC and fresh off wins over Marcus Davis and Mike Swick.

Former two-time heavyweight champion Frank Mir will attempt to make history when he squares off against number one contender Shane Carwin in a clash of the titans that will leave the winner with the interim UFC heavyweight championship belt. UFC 111 – Saturday, March 27th, live on Pay-Per-View from Newark, New Jersey.

My Money is on Silva NOT Bisping

Posted by admin under Headline, Michael Bisping, Wanderlei Silva

If you read me site you can see that I’m not much of a Bisping fan after the whole Ultimate Fighter series.  Bisping was humbled by Dan Henderson.   My money is on Silva to do the same thing.

UFC 110 Michael Bisping vs Wanderlei Silva UFC 110 Picks: Due to the fact that the success he has enjoyed throughout his career hasn’t transferred over to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, sports betting odds favorite Wanderlei Silva [-165 ML] faces the possibility of a must-win bout against Michael Bisping [+135 ML] in tonight’s UFC 110. Since coming over from PRIDE, the Axe Murderer is just 2-5 in the UFC and thus, has decided to shed some pounds and compete at the middleweight division.

Hmm my money is on Silva

Hmm my money is on Silva

This fight has all the ingredients to be a must-see, as both guys will be looking to knock each other into next week. But when it comes to punching power, I have to give the edge to the Brazilian. I think that if Wanderlei can come out aggressive and looks to end the fight quickly, he can eliminate the potential for rust and fatigue from the cutting of the weight. Besides, I think that as proud and macho as Bisping tries to be, it would not take much for him to fall into a slugfest in the middle of the Octagon, and I think we all pretty much know who would be the last man standing if it gets to that point.

UFC 109 Relentless

Marquardt sports an 8-2 record in UFC matches, and an overall MMA record of 32-8-2. His most recent fight came at UFC 102 back in August, in which he defeated Demian Maia by knock out just 21 seconds into the fight. His only two UFC losses came against Thales Leites and Anderson Silva.

The 6′ 0″ 185 pound fighter has a very powerful and impressive ground game. This gives him an advantage over Sonnen in this match up, should the bout get to the ground. Marquardt is a very solid ground fighter from on his back and could submit Sonnen.

Marquardt is a three-time Champion of the middleweight division in the Pancrase Champion, and possesses a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu. Nearly half of his MMA wins have come by submission.

On the other side of the ring, Sonnen was a former college National Champion wrestler, All-American, and was even an alternate on the United States Olympic wrestling team. Despite his impressive wrestling credentials, Sonnen would would still be better served keeping the fight from the ground as long as possible. Marquadt would nullify any attempt that Sonnen tries to submit.

Sonnen has the advantage in striking, and would hold the upper hand in the fight if he is able to execute a game plan that keeps the fight to a striking battle. His last few losses have come by way of submission, and Sonnen will be weary of that. Sonnen won his last outing against Yushin Okami.

Both of these fighters are nearing a title shot against current holder Anderson Silva and a win will move them one step closer.

This middleweight clash on paper seems to be relatively even, but sports books such as Bodog are favoring Marquadt heavily. Currently, Marquadt is installed as a -525 favorite to defeat Sonnen according to the MMA Betting lines at Bodog sports book. Sonnen assumes the underdog role, and is currently set at +325 in this match up.

The fight can be seen live on Saturday, February 6th from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Ls Vegas. It. will be broadcast on Pay-Per-View.

UFC 107 Penn vs. Sanchez

Posted by admin under B.J. Penn, Headline

The UFC has officially announced the entire card for December 12th’s “UFC 107: Penn vs. Sanchez” pay-per-view. After losing Quinton “Rampage” Jackson to “retirement,” the UFC was left scrambling to find a worthy main event to headline their first event in Memphis, Tennessee.

BJ Penn will be defending his lightweight title against #1 contender Diego Sanchez in the main event. Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir will take on Cheick Kongo in a bout that has title implications in a fluid heavyweight division.

Jon Fitch will also be returning to action against Mike Pierce in a welterweight bout while Clay Guida looks to bounce back from his loss to Sanchez against Kenny Florian, who’s coming off of a loss to Penn.

UFC 106 Griffin and Ortiz

Posted by admin under Forrest Griffin, Headline

“I’m excited to be the main event; I’ve been a UFC headliner many times in my 12-year career, so I promise the fans will get a great fight,” said Ortiz.

“I’m gonna put my heart and soul in the Octagon, and I’m not trying to win with points, I’m gonna win with either a submission or a knockout – everyone will see me at my best on November 21st.”

Griffin is equally as excited ahead of the main event this weekend.

“It’s always nice to be in the main event, especially since I’m fighting at home,” said Griffin.

“As far as the fight goes, a lot has happened since 2006, and I think I’m much better than I was back then. That means a win on November 21st, but more importantly I want to settle the score with Tito.”
